Subscribed calendars: see what's booked, and make room for what matters
See your Google, Apple or Outlook meetings beside your own plans, and find room for what matters around what's already booked. An ICS calendar subscription that's read-only: Xale never changes them.
What you can do with subscribed calendars
- Bring any calendar that has a link. Paste an iCalendar (ICS) address from Google, Apple, Fastmail, Outlook or any provider that publishes one. webcal:// links work too.
- Checked before you save. Xale tries the link first and tells you what it found: "Looks good — 12 events in the next 30 days."
- Help finding the link. "Where do I find this URL?" walks you through Google, Apple iCloud and the rest.
- Your meetings, on your day. Events appear on the day planner in the calendar's own colour, beside what you've planned. Drop a task right on top of a meeting's time if you need to.
- Choose which calendars you see. Right on the day planner, switch each calendar on or off, or hide a single event, and bring it back any time.
- Read-only, on purpose. Xale shows your calendar and never writes to it. Remove a calendar here and nothing is deleted there.
Why I wanted ICS calendar subscriptions
I didn't want to rebuild my calendar before the day planner could be useful. My meetings already lived in Google Calendar; what I wanted was to see them beside the things I'd chosen for the day, so I could plan around them instead of guessing. Reading a calendar and taking it over are different promises, so this one only reads.

Your calendar, not everyone's
Meetings are part of the day. They shouldn't be all of it.
- Worth reading: Jason Fried and David Heinemeier Hansson, It Doesn't Have to Be Crazy at Work (2018). Time shouldn't be something others can claim just by finding an empty slot on your calendar.
- The usual way: a work calendar that fills itself, and a to-do list kept somewhere else.
- In this release: meetings come in read-only, in their own colour, beside the things you chose. The gaps are still yours to fill, or to leave.
