Planner that syncs with Google CalendarPRO

Google integration: plan your day with everything in one view

Your Google meetings and tasks beside the things you chose, on one day: a planner that syncs with Google Calendar and Google Tasks, without touching the events already in your calendars.

What you can do with the Google integration

  • Connect once, in Settings → Integrations. One Google account, or several, brings in Calendar, Tasks and Drive. Pause any of them separately, or disconnect whenever you like.
  • Your meetings on your day. Choose which Google calendars to show, and their events appear on Day, Week, Month and Now, in each calendar's own colour, beside your blocks, tasks and habits.
  • Your calendars stay as they are. Xale reads your Google calendars and never changes the events in them.
  • Send your plans the other way. Put a time block or an event on Google Calendar with one click, or send the next 30 days at once. They go to a calendar of their own, named "Xale", so they're easy to find and never mixed in with anything else.
  • Google Tasks, in step. Choose which task lists to bring in, and they become Xale tasks. Send a Xale task to Google Tasks when you want it there, and changes on either side keep them matched.
  • Nothing overwritten by surprise. If a task changed in both places, Xale asks which version to keep. If one was deleted in Google, it asks before removing it here.
  • Keeps itself current. Your calendar refreshes while Xale is open, and you can sync by hand at any time.
  • Meeting notes from Drive. The same connection lets you pick meeting documents to import into Meetings, and Xale sees only the files you choose.
  • Worth knowing: the Google integration is part of Xale Pro.

Why I wanted my planner and Google Calendar in step

I didn't want to rebuild my calendar before Xale could be useful. Subscribed calendars were the first step, but a day planner that only reads a copy of your calendar isn't quite in step with it.

I wanted my Google meetings and tasks on the same day as the things I chose to do, and my plans able to reach Google when I needed them there, without ever rewriting what was already in my calendar.

The ideas behind the Google integration

A plan is only honest if it can see your meetings

A to-do list that ignores the calendar promises hours you don't have.

  • Worth reading: Julie Morgenstern, Time Management from the Inside Out (2000). Time is a space with edges, and planning works when you can see how full it already is.
  • The usual way: tasks in one app, meetings in another, and a day that looks emptier than it is.
  • In this release: your Google meetings sit on the same day as your blocks, tasks and habits.

What others booked, and what you chose

A calendar fills with other people's requests. A good day also has room for yours.

  • Worth reading: Oliver Burkeman, Four Thousand Weeks (2021). You can't do everything, so a good plan is really a choice about what matters.
  • In this release: Google's events stay as they are, and your own plans sit beside them, sent to Google only when you choose.
